Bert and Ernie

I am hardly a homophobe, but this latest push for Bert and Ernie to be declared as a gay couple has my knickers in a twist. I just don't understand why it's an issue. Why should they be gay or straight? It should not matter, people are people, and if we could all have the same values as little kids do, in the way they accept people for who they are, the world would be a better place. It is so stupid. The only other coupling on Sesame Street that could be classed as a romantic relationship is Kermit and Miss Piggy and wasn't that a reverse domestically violent treat??! Should straight people now campaign for a healthy heterosexual relationship??? The viewing audience for Sesame Street are kids, and  unlike us adults, they DON'T CARE! They know people are either shit or clay, and all they need to know is the difference! No labels, no sexuality, no race, no gender. I understand that the LGBT community have an argument for more widely representative role models and we have a long way to go towards gaining the acceptance we desire and deserve, but Sesame Street is not the forum for this discussion. Kids love people for who they are. Someone needs to teach the adults.
